Ahhhh.... Fresh Fabric! Do you feel it?

Do you feel the sheer excitement and anticipation when you enter a fabric store? Boy oh boy, I do! I remember a quaint little fabric store that wasn't far from our home when I was a child. Each summer, my mom and I would make several trips to The Yardstick to purchase fabric for her sewing adventures. I just become down right giddy, my heart flutters and my pulse races at all of the bolts of fabric and patterns just waiting to be discovered.

I absolutely love to wander and look, touch, feel, dream and flip through the pages of the pattern books trying to decide what I want to make/sew. And as usual after a summer afternoon of dreaming among the bolts of material, mom and I both left the fabric store with big hopes and even bigger expectations of how much sewing "we" could get done during the summer.

Now when I say 'we', it's more of a collective type of sewing.... I would sit on the bed in the sewing room while she would cut out and sew for hours as I chattered her ears off. Usually there was some bribery on her part - meaning I would have to go in and fix a quick lunch for my dad when he got home or get dinner started for her, so she could finish some elaborate project I had begged her to do. LOL I didn't mind it at all because I usually always ended up with a new dress for Church the next Sunday or a new outfit to wear immediately. Ahhh... I just wish I could bribe HER to sew for me again! I need some new mama-made clothes!

This weekend I ventured into a fabric store and instantly it began to feel like summertime to me again. All of the fresh new bolts of printed fabric and lightweight cottons were calling out to me. I felt as if the pages of the pattern books were calling my name. What's a girl to do? I had to stop and look, touch, and dream.... however as sad as it is, Briley doesn't have my same addictions and attractions to fabric, so my time in the fabric store was short. Not to worry, I am still yearning for and planning an afternoon alone when I can spend some quiet time looking through the pages of the pattern books and dreaming up what my next sewing adventure is going to be.

After all of these years, I still have and cherish that dear Bernina sewing machine that offered me so many wonderous adventures...i.e... outfits! LOL It holds a very prestigious place in my home and believe it or not, my mother would still prefer to sew on her 'old' Bernina instead of her shiney new Bernina....? What's up with that? LOL

Keep your fingers crossed.....

I'm hoping this idea sticks and is OFFICIAL! Many of you know the turmoil and indecisiveness that Brit has been putting us through, but yesterday SHE (along with my checkbook) made a commitment to Sam Houston State University! Now she has no idea what she is going to major in and at this point I really am not going to worry too much about that! The simple facts are that she has been accepted and we have begun the process for dorm assignments, meal plans and scheduling the orientation date.

Considering she graduates from High School in 4 weeks, I would say IT IS ABOUT TIME!! UGH!!!!! She is making me old fast!! LOL

More Photo Tweeking...

I am going to try and show a before and after shot. I am having so much fun playing with pictures and learning to use all of the gadgets and buttons on my camera!

Here is a quick shot of a sweaty little Briley at the ball field SOOC (Straight out of the Camera)

Here's the same picture after I did a little playing around with it!
I LOVE this stuff!

Here it is - as promised - a picture of Bailey pitching! What a tough game!
She's really developing the maturity to hold her own out there and pull herself through a hard spot! Now, if she would develop the maturity to turn her homework in on time and realize that After/Before School Detention is NOT meant to be FUN! UGH!!!!

Here are the "Bucket Buddies"... they spend most every game sitting on their buckets and watching their girls play. Well along with the watching comes the critiquing - examining every play - and rehashing who should be playing what position. I guess it's really more of a meeting of the minds! LOL OR NOT? LOL

I am the ultimate in L-A-Z-Y today! I did take some really good pictures of Bailey pitching and playing first base this weekend, but you see..... my car is way out in the back of the parking lot, and we are having our concrete drive/parking lots redone today and it is a huge pain to go all the way out there to get my camera.

So I will just have to upload pictures tomorrow. I know, I know... it won't be the same, but I'm sure you will survive.

We did have a great time at the tournament this weekend. I really enjoyed the companionship of the other moms and dads. It's always like getting together with old friends and just hanging out and laughing hysterically at each other's 'marriage stories' as we are all around the tailgate (drinking our brew of choice)between games. I really needed the social interraction and the break away from the pile of laundry I left waiting on the love seat. (I keep threatening that I'm going to take a picture of that pile, and I just might! Noone believes the size of this thing!)

The only bad thing about a weekend of softball is that I have a huge 'hangover' on Monday! NOT from beer, but from the whole weekend of not getting the laundry and the house cleaned. Trying to get everyone up on Monday is a nightmare - including ME!

Ahhhh... Here's a picture from this past summer when she was pitching in the National's tournament.....

I'll leave you with this tease... More to come on Monday, because I just know your week wouldn't be complete without me plastering my kids' pictures all over my blog! LOL

I promise to do better....

Next Week with my blogging!!!!

I just haven't had it in me to blog this week! I haven't been able to think of anything interesting to blog about and I just haven't had an original thought all week! Maybe we are in some funky phase of the moon? Maybe I'm just in some funky phase?

Bailey has a softball tournament this weekend, and we have pool games starting tonight, so maybe I can get some cool action shots of her pitching? Maybe? Luckily the weather is supposed to be gorgeous and I'm planning on parking my comfy lawn chair on the side and people watching between games! Woo Hooo... the excitement just never stops for me, does it? (Insert sarcastic laugh!)

Have a fabulous weekend!

Taking Sr. Pictures

It's that time of year for all High School Sr's....time to submit the photos that they want to be incorporated into the Sr. CD to be handed down from generation to generation. Suddenly a panic struck our home because the deadline is coming up and WE (Brit) doesn't have any that she thinks are 'good enough' to be submitted. Nevermind the fact that I've already paid close to $500 for the studio shots... UGH.... Okay, so I'm frugal... I don't deny it and suggested that I take some pics of her and we could tweek them to her approval. After a brisk day at the garden center and a few rolling eyeball shot, I came up with a few pictures that I think are worthy of any professional photography session. Tell me what you think? These are just a few that I have played with this morning, as we took 145 pictures yesterday. I had a lot of fun, I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed taking them.

Virtual Cupcakes

You can make your own virtual cupcake! FAT FREE - NO CALORIES !!! This is what I created! YUMMMY!!!!

Do you speak 'teenager'?

I guess I'm out of the link.... I don't speak it and can barely interpret the teenage language! Last night as we are all standing around the bar eating dinner (Note to self - pizza delivery and standing at the kitchen bar doesn't consitute a family meal...) I began to listen to my teens. I guess I never really took the time or was conscious enough to care before now, but they are butchering the English language - LOL. Not only were there so many grammatical errors, but the use of words was appauling! (I can say this because they are my monsters and I don't really think they speak this way in public?) Along with the corruption of the speaking skills, they have mastered speaking with their mouths full and mumbling! Where oh where did I go wrong? Obviously this is some horrible effect of public school and eating in the cafeteria?
Every other word was 'freaking'! (insert rolling eyes) This is one of my least favorite words, not that I don't say it occassionally, but for some reason I think it looks/sounds really tacky when a 13 year old rattles it out of their mouth? I rank it right up there with the really ugly ones and get so tired of hearing it around the house. Here are a few of the terms I heard last night:
freakin' TV
dang chair
stupid guy
lesbo girl
retardo
crap
Oh My Gosh!! Let me offer a bit of a disclaimer here ~ I did try to correct them and their language and luckily Briley was too involved in her hamburger pizza and the Sponge Bob cartoon to pay attention to the words flying around the pizza!
Are these kids allowed to speak this way in their classrooms? I just don't understand how the teenage language has become so 'raw'? On second thought, maybe I should be glad that my kids are atleast communicating with me and each other? Hmmmm???? Something to think about!

AHHHH CHOOOOOOOO..........

Sorry about that, but with the arrival of spring and all of it's perks, we get the not so perky parts as well - sneeze, sniff, sniff.... snort..... aahhhh choooo......... !!!!!!

Here are some lovely pictures of the problem causing plants - I snapped these while at the ball field this weekend - Enjoy, but don't get too close - they might make you sneeze!~Before~

~After~

The Blue Bonnets this year have been very pretty and very full along the sides of the highways. I wonder if it has anything to do with all of the rain we've had this year. It seems like their colors are so much brighter than usual. I have been wanting to stop and take a picture along side of the highway, but I'm just a bit frightened to pull over on the highway and snap a shot - those cars kinda scare me?

First Coach-Pitch Softball Game....

Made it all the way around and scored one for the TEAM!! Woo HOOO!!!!!
First up, is Briley and her very first Coach-Pitch softball game. Her team didn't win, but then again they didn't get stomped either! The final score was 4 to 6, and condering that the majority of our team had never played ball before and the other team is in their last year of coach-pitch and apparently they were corn fed ~if you know what I mean ~ so we'll take this first game and play on LOL

So here are my pictures of the game - well maybe not the game, it's more like just pics of Briley.

Dad and Bailey - how interested do they look? Not very~!

Woo Hoo.... she made it to 1st base! And yes, that's Bailey the 1st Base Coach!

Without a doubt, the cutest 3rd baseman EVER! LOL

Rain, Rain, Go Away... Come again... Another Day!

Do you see these clouds? UGH... for the past week or so, we have had gloomy cloudy days with a chance of rain showers. By the looks of these clouds one might think that we were going to have a 'gulley washer'... but NOPE, about 5 minutes after this picture was taken, the skies cleared and we had sunshine for about 30 minutes and then the clouds moved back in again.

Each day we have overcast skies and NO rain! It's Spring and I realize that we are going to have the usual April showers for the May flowers, but I just wish it would rain, already! This is becoming depressing! I know... I know... I'm never happy! BUT I NEED SOME SUNSHINE!!!!! I just don't seem to have any energy or motivation when the weather is gloomy, but give me sunshine and I can accomplish anything you want done. How weird is that?

The Last Track Meet of the Season

Here are a few shots of Bailey in the last track meet of the season - I am so proud of her, I just never fully appreciated the skill and athleticism that it takes to successfully participate in these events. Wow... these kids have serious determination!

Perhaps this was the best part of the afternoon Bailey in all of her glory!! :)
